Ideal for beginners - grade 0 - 3
If you are a beginner to grade 3 bassoonist the Crook and Stable Student Bassoon Reed is ideal for you. It has many features which allow you to improve your technique and musicality without being held back by using heavier reeds that can cause problems in the early stages of learning the bassoon. They are also hand-made in the UK by an experienced professional bassoon reed maker.
Warm tone and easy to play
The medium-soft strength of our student bassoon reed helps you to develop a free and open embouchure which later in your development will make creating a warm singing tone on the bassoon much simpler. It will also allow you to play for longer sessions, as it does not wear out your embouchure as quickly.
Durable, adjustable & good value
Beginners often don't realise how fragile bassoon reeds are and break them frequently - our good value student bassoon reed has been designed with a thicker tip in order help prevent accidental damage! Our student bassoon reed is also designed so that your teacher can easily make slight adjustments to the reed so it suits you.

One reed may be better than the next one, but overall these are affordable reeds that make good practice.
Good student reed.
It took 4 weeks for our Oder to reach us. I had to enquire as to its progress. Only then I was informed that the product was out of stock and needed to be ordered. It effected the lessons and performance on my son
On the product page it said 'Special Order. Usually dispatched within 14 days' and after the order was placed we sent out an automated email as a reminder of that this reed was on special order when it was ordered and advised where its estimated despatch time frame could be found. We despatched the reeds 4 days after our estimated 14 day window.
The order was placed using our slowest delivery service, if speed is of the essence we do offer faster delivery options.
We show the stock levels of all of our products on the product pages and if you are ever in need of reeds urgently we do have the vast majority of reeds in stock and ready to be sent immediately.
Great service, thanks
It's our pleasure. Hope to see you at C&S again soon.

Stable reed which is free blowing, solid tone.
The junior reed has made my son’s practice so much easier - wish we’d discovered it when he’d first started playing. A super reed.
We are glad you've found the right reed now! When your son feels ready to move up a reed, our C&S Academy reed tends to be a natural progression for players who have started on C&S student reeds. If you would ever like any advice or have any questions on reeds please feel free to email customer service and they'll always be happy to assist.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a lovely review, and happy bassooning to your son.
Very best wishes,
Eliza @ Crook & Staple
Reed is great. My daughter says good quality.
The issue was it took over a month to arrive.
Of student bassoon reeds, so far those of C&S are the best. They play easily and without much effort both low and high, and the middle E and D are surprisingly stable. What I also like is that there is a certain 'woodiness' in their sound, rather than the non-descript tone that often comes out of student reeds. As I mostly play basso continuo parts, using a reed that is not too loud or stubborn is a must - and these reeds are just that.
Thanks for the lovely review Daan! :) Very best wishes, Matthew @ Crook & Staple
Student bassoon reeds are free blowing: good value and worth the wait!
