Product Description

Free-blowing without being thin

The reed lets you start a note as quietly as you like and push it as loud as you need without it cracking up. The dynamic range is genuinely usable: soft pianissimo entries through to full fortissimo, with no thin or strained patch in the middle. Cane is selected and tested at every stage, so you don't open a box wondering which one is going to play tonight.

The warm, singing British tone

Focused, warm, with the British orchestral character you hear from the BBC orchestras and the West End pits. The medium strength lets you keep a relaxed, open embouchure across long passages, which matters more than people think when you're playing through a Mahler symphony or a back-to-back show week.

Reeds arrived promptly and the responses is satisfactory. Only minor adjustments are needed but it's really to adjust to suit my personal quirks.

Very good reeds for me

Great projection and even tone

Been struggling to find and settle on a new make of reed after more than 20yrs of buying from the same lovely lady. A lot of money and many reeds later I think I've found it. Lovely even tone across the range, doesn't sacrifice being able to get lower notes to speak over pitch stability in the upper octave (which I've been finding with other reed makes). Also very easy to project for solo work but also able to blend for ensembles. I've had one so far and just making an order for a few more and also the matching Cor reed to see if that can be a viable, reliable replacement. Overall very pleased with the service from C&S too.

The reeds arrived quickly and

The reeds arrived quickly and were packaged well. They are slightly on the sharp side when first played but they are tuning nicely now. They are easy to play. I'm happy with them and will probably create a regular subscription.

A bit hard

This reed us actually a bit hard for me, I’m trying to blow it in but to no avail. I think I’ll go back to my previous supplier. Sorry.

Never played on one of

Never played on one of these reeds before. Really impressed with the tone and would purchase one again.

Nice reed!

First impressions are that this reed was made well. It has a lovely sound quality and tone. Maybe a little hard for me but I have scraped it a bit and it's much better. I will order more to compare their consistency.

Excellent, stable reeds

These reeds are well made and playable straight out of the box. Good attack at the bottom but also maintaining a good tone in the tenor register.

Great reed.

The Alaw Reed played great straight out of the package. Good tone and the low notes popped out fantastically and easily. Upper register played well with good pitch.

Work well

Diamond stones work well to keep my reed knife sharp.

Alaw bassoon reed a success

Very pleased with my new Alaw reed. Good tone and controllabillity.
Pitching accurately required a bit of getting used to at first but it now behaves very well excellent sound :and responsive .

A wonderful reed!

This is a fabulous reed. After its initial soak, it has always played immediately from the case. It produces a mellow, rather than a bright, sound - and that is my preference. The low notes are as easy to play (even quietly) as I have ever experienced in a reed. I will definitely be buying this reed again.

C&S "professional" reeds are not usually available so I bought this Argento six months ago. I liked it better than Alaw and Urbach, in fact it was so good I just bought another. The new one is every bit as good. No adjustment was needed, it worked well immediately.

Played beautifully straight out of the box

Very pleased with these, not too resistent or hard but also not too reedy/easy, just right for me with a good tone on a loree cor.

Fantastic reed

So relieved to find a reed that works for me. Fairly free blowing but with good depth of tone and stability. Good to go straight from the box. Perfect for me right now. Praying they remain consistent with their production. Very happy so far. Have bought several. Happy days.

Good seat strap for Bassoon

Been using my own home made for years, wanted an upgrade. This does the job, nice quality, good fit, and certainly eases left hand pressure. Two issues I have found is it does come away quite easily, would prefer to be able to tighten it a bit more than the velcro will allow.
It doesn't fit in the case very well?

not for students!

reeds were no good at all. far too hard. even our oboe teacher couldn't get a tune out of them. He even tried making them thiner. waste of money unfortunately.
